Since coming to the United States House of Representatives in 2003, Jeb Hensarling has quickly established himself as a national leader. His combination of principled conservatism and practical political experience culminated in his election as Chairman of the Republican Study Committee (RSC), a 104-member group of the most conservative Republicans of the U.S. House, for 2007-2008.

An outspoken advocate for limited government and unlimited freedom, Congressman Hensarling has led efforts to control spending and protect tax relief throughout his career in Congress. Earlier in his career, Jeb served as Chairman of the RSC Budget and Spending Taskforce, where he introduced a budget that would balance in five years without raising taxes on American families and individuals. He is the author of the “Family Budget Protection Act,” a landmark budget reform bill that was heralded as the “Gold Standard” of budget enforcement legislation by a coalition of conservative groups. National Review called Hensarling “Rep. Budget Reform.”

During 2007, Jeb led conservatives in their effort to win back the trust of the American taxpayer. After Republicans lost control of Congress in the wake of the 2006 elections, Hensarling was tapped by his colleagues to chair the RSC, and from that post, he has fought for accountability in the earmark process, to create coalition in the House to sustain vetoes of bloated spending bills and to prevent Washington Democrats from enacting the largest tax increase in American history that they included in their 2008 budget.

Once again, Congressman Hensarling received praise from pro-taxpayer groups in 2007. Hensarling won “Taxpayer Friend” designation for the third consecutive year by the National Taxpayers Union, who also announced that Jeb had the least expensive spending agenda in the entire Congress during 2005 and 2006. Citizens Against Government Waste named Hensarling a “Taxpayer Hero”, while the Club for Growth awarded Congressman Hensarling a 100% score on their RePork Card, which highlighted conservatives’ efforts to cut pork from spending bills in 2007. The American Conservative Union awarded Jeb with their “Best and the Brightest” award in 2007.

The Dallas Morning News said that Jeb has emerged as a “rising congressional star” and is a “man of conviction.” The New York Times said that Jeb has emerged as a “conservative leader”.

Congressman Hensarling’s experiences in helping to create jobs and having to meet payroll have made him an ally of small business, a champion of regulatory relief and a strong advocate for economic growth. Congressman Hensarling has remained actively involved in his community dating back to his early years as an Eagle Scout.

Jeb and his wife Melissa are members of St. Michael and All Angels Church and reside in Dallas with their two children, Claire and Travis.
